Director’s Statement
There are about 20, if not more, completely different and distinct cuisines that exist in India. However, outside India, only a couple of them are fairly popular. This has led to stereotyping of Indian food outside India (e.g. curry, naan, tikka masala, etc).
Marathi food belongs to the state of Maharashtra, located in the central part of India. It is sometimes considered a little bit more austere food than the heavily spiced ones people are used to. Marathi food is relatively unknown outside India and not served in Indian restaurants outside India, almost anywhere.
